This gear is used where the transfer case input shaft (transmission output shaft) extends in the transfer case has worn splines. The longer splined section on this gear means that you do not need to go to the effort of replacing your transmission output shaft.
This gear does not work with a PTO gear, as the longer splined portion sits on the shaft where the PTO gear goes.
